Two heavily contaminated Sega Game Gears, so badly that components were falling off the boards from the electrolyte. Many hours in, one has a partially defective screen and the other boots and plays audio with no picture. A partial result after a massive effort.

#Sega Game Gear restoration 🧵. As expected, every single capacitor on both consoles leaked everywhere, to a greater or lesser extent. Some components flew off both main PCBs due to the massive electrolytic fluid contamination on the solder joints. #RETROGAMING

The second and third picture show examples of components that came off.

The last two pictures show work on both main PCBs completed.

These pictures show the end results. One console works but has a screen with defects in some lines. The other powers on, boots the game (Columns) and I can hear the pieces fall but, there is no picture on the screen. Many, many hours of work sunk into this and no win, bummer. 😔

I was finally able to fix this Game Gear's sound issues. I can finally hear the noise of the pieces hitting the ground in Columns. #Sega #GameGear #RETROGAMING
