Sega — Mega-CD 1
A second Mega-CD model 1, acquired after my first one died. Probably the fault of the non-OEM optical pickup I'd put in the original.
Model 1 Mega CD on the table for a full recap and every single capacitor on this thing had leaked. There wasn't a single one that didn't stink up the whole room coming off. #Sega #MegaCD #SegaCD #RetroGaming
Washed all the boards in the ultrasonic cleaner, cleaned and lubricated the drive.
Even this capacitor smelled of rotten fish coming off...
Put it back together for a test and it powered on but wouldn't do anything other than display the message to wait. Power cycled a few times and it stopped powering on, freezing on the first frame of BIOS animation. Then stabbed myself accidentally storing the iron tips. Cursed...
There's life just not in the laser. Second unit with a dead laser. Rotten bit of luck.
Keeping it simple today. Just adding a coin cell holder and an ML2032 to the Model 1 Sega CD. #RETROGAMING #Sega
Got something in the post today. It's time to install a new KSS-240A in my recently acquired Mega CD model 1. #retrogaming #Sega #MegaCD
In with the new laser and voilà. It works, the game boots, FMV does not stutter. All good signs, so far.
I almost forgot I had these tucked away here. I picked one up to install and free the Mega CD of its region locked shackles. #retrogaming #Sega #MegaCD
I can finally dust off these classics. #retrogaming #sega #MegaDrive #MegaCD #finalfight #lunar
