Nintendo Game Boy Color: IPS Screen & Smoke Shell Mod

May 15, 20201 thread~1 min read
Deep cleanScreen / backlight mod

First Game Boy Color screen mod, done in May 2020. Stripped and cleaned, IPS kit bench-tested before committing to it, then rehoused in a clear smoke shell with a glass lens rather than cutting the original Atomic Purple housing. Years of Tetris DX followed.

Back in 2020, I modded my first Game Boy Color with a different shell and an IPS screen.

2 / 3

I disassembled it, gave it a bit of a clean. I then tested out the screen kit to check if everything was alright.

Afterwards I put everything back into a clear smoke case with a glass lens because I didn't want to ruin the Atomic Purple shell for the screen mod. I then proceed to enjoy many, many hours of Tetris DX on it, over the years. I love Tetris on the Game Boy.
