Nintendo Famicom Fuse Fix & Composite Mod

October 6, 20226 threads~2 min readSuccessful repair
Blown fuse
RecapAV output mod

This Nintendo Famicom (HVC-001) was self-fixing and self-breaking. The fuse measured fine one day and dead the next; a replacement sorted it. It has since gained a composite video mod board and new factory-style stickers.

Dead Famicom. One day fuse measured fine, couldn't get the TV to tune into the Famicom's channel. Next day, fuse had no continuity, replaced it, console works fine. 🤷‍♂️ #Nintendo #Famicom #Castlevania

Next was the #Famicom itself. New capacitors and some #Castlevania III for testing. The console seems happy. In time, some retrobrighting will take place as the final piece of maintenance. #Nintendo #RETROGAMING

1/3 Well, sometimes things are really just too far gone, as evidenced by the #Nintendo #Famicom shell that I left inside the container for 1 week. It is better but it seems like it hit a point past which the plastic colour, simply does not improve. #RetroGaming #retrobrighting

3/3 Completely assembled and paired again with its Disk System buddy. These two are inseparable. 😄

Hey @RgRDev, got my Famicom Power Board in the mail. Sadly, with the instructions on the site I'm not sure on how to assemble it. The connector has more wires than a GPM-02 board requires, I don't know which to use. Can you provide some directions please? Your DMs are closed BTW.

I might improve the wiring in the future but for now it is working well. Shoutout to @RgRDev for making a #Famicom power board and a sweet composite adapter. It's nice to have a no cut way of getting composite out of these consoles. Added some new stickers too. #RETROGAMING

Playing one of my favourite games to celebrate, #Castlevania 3. #RETROGAMING #Nintendo #Akumajou
