The laser on a friend's Microsoft Xbox 360 needed replacing: the old pickup refused to read discs 99% of the time, so a new laser and a drive service got it reading again.

A couple of weeks back a friend asked me to take a look at his old #Xbox 360. It had difficulty ejecting disks and it didn't read any games. I decided to refurbish it. It was full of dust and the drive belt was warped. #restoration #repair #gaming

I didn't have a replacement for the belt, so in the meantime I boiled the original one and that allowed for the tray operation to become much easier but not perfect. Cleaned it up, including the laser lens and I could get it to run Crysis 3 but no other games.

I ordered a new laser and when it arrived I replaced the old one with it and voilà. Presto change-o it can read any discs I through at it and it can operate more efficiently, now that it has no dust (console and PSU) and new thermal paste.
