Sega — Game Gear
This Game Gear went through a lot. A full IPS mod with speaker, FM module and glass lens, then a trip to the floor courtesy of a curious one year old that tore the flex cables. A clock line bodge wire and a barely-surviving TP10 pad later, everything was restored.
(1/2) For a quick weekend project. I decided to upgrade one of my #Sega #GameGear with a broken screen, to one of @BennVennElec's IPS screens. #RETROGAMING #restoration #repair
(2/2) Here are some screenshots of Aleste 3 with and without scanlines. #RETROGAMING #Sega #GameGear
Got the final parts to complete my Game Gear modifications today. A new speaker, a a new volume wheel, a glass lens and an FM module. These pair up nicely with the IPS kit I had already installed. #RETROGAMING #Sega #GameGear
(1/3) When your 1 year old decides you're modded Game Gear with very fragile flex ribbons needs a trip to the flower. No sound and no picture ensues. 🙄 Let's fix this thing! 🧵👇 #RETROGAMING #Sega #GameGear #repair
(2/3) Clock line bodge wire, since the pad flex tore in the intended position for this. TP10 pad barely hanging on, so I soldered what little was left of it and put some UV curing solder mask on top of my it. ✅
(3/3) Picture, sound and, scanline and scaling functions restored. 😊
Fucking auto-correct... flower was supposed to be floor 🙄
Double whammy, mfer... you're -› your 🤦
This one is less about righting wrongs and more about putting stuff where it makes sense. I had in the past installed some mods (power and audio) in a Game Gear with a stock screen so, now I'm just switching them over to a modded one. #RETROGAMING #Sega #GameGear
