Nintendo — Panasonic Q (SL-GC10)
The optical drive rails were in pieces, so 3D printed replacements were the first order of business. A FlippyDrive followed. Just be aware the flex cable orientation is the opposite of a regular GameCube.
Panasonic Q partial drive restoration. Left rail shattered, drive belt deformed. Glued rail for now, replaced belt, turns out it works fine and reads games. Tray actually moves smoothly but I will still revisit this and replace with 3D printed rails. #RETROGAMING #Nintendo
Properly restored my Panasonic Q's drive by substituting them with these drive rails on @thingiverse As you can be seen in the pics one of the rails was pretty much shattered to bits. Thanks @nunofgs for the prints. #RETROGAMING #Nintendo #consolemodding
Some valuable knowledge here, for those wishing to restore a Panasonic Q's optical drive using 3D printed parts. #RETROGAMING #Nintendo #consolemodding
Finally, after a very long wait, my flippydrive units have arrived! One for my spice orange GameCube and one for my Panasonic Q. #RETROGAMING #Nintendo #GameCube #flippydrive
1/2 While testing #FlipperMCE I decided I would install the #FlippyDrive on my Panasonic Q too, to test more games. In the process I discovered there's no documentation for the Q and you could assume the flex should be placed the same way as in a normal cube but that's incorrect.
2/2 The orientation is flipped around, which I guess ends up making sense since that way you can fit the screw back on for that connector daughter board for the drive. Here are some pics of the menu and me playing some Double Dash. #Nintendo #GameCube #RETROGAMING #MarioKart
While this works, I was told that the actual intended placement is beneath the shielding. So, this is what you should end up with. #FlippyDrive #Nintendo #GameCube #RETROGAMING
While I was in there, redoing the Flippydrive installation and trying to take pictures that night be used to document the installation procedure. I figured I might as well recap the motherboard, to save me some work in the future, when I decide to recap the rest of the unit.
