The MiniDisc rabbit hole starts here. A portable MZ-N920 in good shape, a deck that needed a new belt for its loading mechanism, and a Victor stereo that does cassette, MiniDisc and CD. An embarrassment of riches.
MiniDisc status update #1 the portable one (MZ-N920) works just fine and the controller looks minty fresh. #Sony #MiniDisc
#MiniDisc status update #2 the deck (MDS-S500) wasn't working when I tested it upon arrival. The panel didn't display anything and it made grinding noises. Turns out, the auto loading mechanism isn't engaging properly and a disc was in limbo but it otherwise works fine. #Sony
The issue with the loading/eject mechanism on these decks is related to the belt. I finally get to use one from this set I bought a while ago. The original belt had turned into a little snake, replaced it with a brand new one and voilà. We have a fix! #Sony #MiniDisc #repair
That arrived a lot quicker than what the eBay prediction said. I didn't have a charger for the MiniDisc and I found these cables during a search. Seems to be working well so far, the MiniDisc battery has been charging for a while now.
Look at this beauty! Fresh off Japan, a Victor stereo with cassette, MiniDisc and CD player. Follow the thread for a tour of this lovely piece of engineering.🧵#hifi #audio #cassette #MiniDisc #CD #JVC #Victor
A couple more glamour shots and a video of it playing a cassette of Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream album.
Trying out the MiniDisc drives with some random MiniDisc I bought that already had stuff recorded on them. I have no idea of what it is though.
Testing the CD player with Diablo III's Reaper of Souls OST. #Diablo
This is just the video of the demo mode, if you like to see blinking lights as much as I do. 😄
And finally, I say goodbye to you folks and so does the stereo because this is a very polite little unit. 😉 👋
